Construction update for the week of August 27 - September 2

Hello to all! Happy Labor Day Weekend!

This week we will not be building Friday August 31st, or Saturday September 1st. 

What Happened Last Week

Pittsfield Home Revitalization

On August 29th, Core Volunteer John Green helped finish installing six basement windows for local resident, Anna Lambert. These windows will help keep her basement insulated, waterproof, and greatly improve air circulation.

Mrs. Lambert was born and raised in Germany and moved with her husband to the United States when he was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. One of the first times she left the house after her husband was deployed was to buy some matches at a store nearby. She didn't speak any English and wasn't sure how to express that she wanted some matches. She went to the store and pointed at a man smoking a cigarette, however, after what felt like 2 hours trying to explain she wanted matches not cigarettes she left the store. Luckily she managed to run into someone who spoke German and eventually got her matches! Mrs. Lambert moved to Pittsfield and became a naturalized citizen. The judge asked her one question: "What flies over City Hall?" She answered birds.
