Construction Updates as of Jan 12th
Hello to all! We are back this week with our behind the scenes updates. In this newsletter you'll have the chance to learn more about the work going on behind the scenes for our Dalton project. We will also highlight our other volunteer opportunities in the ReStore and in our office. Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity (CBHFH) is still a very busy place even when our build sites seem oh so quiet and calm.
Behind the Scenes
So what actually needs to happen before we begin to build? Well the answer to this question varies per house and per type of build. In the case of our newest home in Dalton, we are restoring an existing building rather than starting from scratch. Building on an existing home means that we must evaluate the health and stability of the existing building while keeping an eye both on what the building is and also what it will soon be. As we navigate this process, we have all been working to correctly evaluate the "health" of this new building, thus allowing its final form to be one that can house our new family safely for many years to come.
Volunteering Opportunities
Since it's start in March 2010, the ReStore has been a space where CBHFH has been able to extend its mission to the broader community. The ReStore mission is based in increasing the affordability, and lifespan of building materials and home-furnishings while also expanding the available funds for Habitat homes. The ReStore is full of new and gently used items which help to raise money to support our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. As our program has grown, so has our need for volunteers. The ReStore offers a variety of volunteer positions including Cashier/Sales Associate, Merchandiser, Sales Floor Representative, and Warehouse Assistant. In our office, we work hard to keep all of the parts of the complex Habitat machine moving and cruising. Within the office we offer a variety of volunteer options spanning from data entry, to organizational projects, to general office tasks (think shredding, sorting, filing).
